And we're Fighting Because?

Isn't it funny? The hate bloggers have spent the last two years bashing everyone in sight. They bashed Henry Farnham when he was Council Prsesident. Now, in the most juvenile and vicious way, they are bashing Janet Joakim. They have bashed Councilor James Crocker. They have bashed Councilor James Munafo. They have bashed Councilor Harold Tobey. Heck, the have attacked every Councilor presently serving. They have bashed the Town Manager. They have bashed the Asst. Town Manager. They have bashed our Town lawyer. The have bashed the head of the Public Works Department. At one time or another, they have bashed everyone who works for our Town or Fire Districts.

And why, you may ask, have the hate-bloggers been viciously and personally attacking so many people for so long? In what must be the most ridiculous and cynical strategy ever devised, the WANT to make our Town look bad. Nothing is ever good enough. Nothing is ever good. Period.

And why, you may ask again? Their strategy is that if they can make the present system look bad, then residents will support change. The problem is that our citizens aren't that dumb. Actually, they're pretty smart. We don't like unfairness. We don't like Bullies. We don't like personal attacks. Never did. Never will. The residents of Barnstable will support change if they believe that there is a better structure of government to meet our needs. They will not change because of beliefs based on personal attacks on individuals.

And the fallacy of their strategy is that they're fighting the wrong fight. They assume that people associated with the present system are against change. Oh, really?

Didn't one Councilor lead the effort to get the signatures? Didn't one Councilor Chair a Committee that supports a reform to at least some at large representation? Haven't other Councilors supported the establishment of a Charter Commission and publicly endorse change? Has Town management fought either the Charter Commission or the right of residents to change its government? Why are they bashing dedicated staff who do a great job for us? Because they want the town to look bad.

How cynical and destructive. As we have said before, It isn't a winning strategy.

And one begins to wonder whether the haters are more interested in the fight than they are in the results. Their strategy is ill conceived and ego-driven.

And we're fighting because?

What do you think?

The Lopez blog seems to be slowly running out of steam. The increasingly less frequent postings generate fewer and fewer responses. His current effort has garnered 2 comments in 24 hours. This is not an isolated development. Without Julius and his miles of text the Lopez blog comes to a sickening halt. At the same time Joakim seems to be neglecting her site. Perhaps there will only be two sites left standing.

Just two. Cape Cod Today and the BarnstableBlogger.

It's curious to me why the BarnstableBlogger won't identify. Isn't this supposed to be about democratic debate or is is just to bash the COG's Lopez; Bugsy and Julius. You say those people are haters for their own egos. I say your ego is showing when you think you have the only message. Julius had legitimate questions which went unanswered for two years. The twists and turns taken by town government to not answer would have put Chubby Checker to shame. Why just last Thursday the Town's counsel said he made his own interpretation of the CPF rules. Mr. Crocker sat illegally on the "committee" for rules change. As per Mr. Farnham no councilor would be on it and yet there was Mr. Crocker as chair appointed by Mr. Farnham. They are people who believe they can do what they want without taxpayer oversite and its their message to control. I've heard that idea in many meetings recently: "We have to control the message." That's what I believe you are attempting to do. What dog do you have in the hunt? Who are you blog author?

Your post makes too much sense.

Why would we want to work together to improve our community? It is much more satisfying to attack people and divide our town. Who cares if we lose.

Hi Sylvia, I thank you for your post. I respectfully disagree that it is important that any contributor use their name. I am more interested in what you think and have to say. If you take the personality aside, then maybe we can focus on ideas. I understand that we disagree on that point, but you are always welcome here.

BB- You have nailed it. A new Charter should overwhelmingly pass if the commitment is made to spend time in every village listening to everyone's concerns. A Charter change can be a positive experience if it isn't based on individuals but what's best for Barnstable. Keep up the good work!

Dear BarnstableBlogger, Could you prvide us with the timetable for a new Charter and how it is selected? Thanks, Sal

BB,

The Anti-Barnstable blogs have to focus on attacks, because without them, they don't have anything to garner attention. Positive Ideas? These are as foreign to Mr KOG and Muffy as Florida is to a penguin.

They have gained their small following through the racket of discovering "corruption"...even though they have to create the corruption themselves. As history has shown, if you throw in a few facts and make up the rest, there are bound to be a few gullible folks to follow you...witness Jim Jones and David Koresh.

Don't concern yourself with those hate sites, as they have become persona non grata on the computers of persons seeking true reform. We need to continue to discuss real issues and possible alternatives in local government...let Mr KOG play alone in his sandbox, or else you can expect a faceful of sand from this cyber-bully.

As far as the use of real names, I prefer to retain my nom de plume, and follow in the footsteps of our great national leaders like Franklin, Tom Paine, Madison, who found anonymity a respectible way to speak out on important issues.

BB, We have lived here for 4 years and very much like this community. Compared to where we came from, this is paradise. What is all the yelling and screaming about? We don't get it.

Most people don't. Our town has it's problems. But it clearly is a great community. The practice of tearing it apart with no apparent goal, is bazarre.
