Election Season Almost Here

The 2007 Election Season is almost here in Barnstable. Today (Friday) was the last day that interested candidates could take out nomination papers for the various local offices, with the exception of the Charter Commission that has a deadline in September. Some interesting trends appear to be taking shape.

According to the Barnstable Patriot, the following incumbent Town Councilors appear to be cruising to a victory unopposed: Ann Canedy, James Crocker and Richard Barry. The Patriot reports that Jim Munafo appears to be facing opposition from local Attorney Michael Hersey and new voter and Hate Blogger Eric Schwaab. There also is an open seat for the term limited Gary Brown and Jason Cox, Lou Gonzaga and James Tinsley have pulled papers to run.

And what about Councilor Greg Milne? The BarnstableBlogster has just learned that Ron Semprini of Hyannis has entered the race. That should be an interesting one to watch!

So what can we make of the fact that three incumbents are running unopposed. The street tells us that:

1. There is a general level of satisfaction of those running unopposed, and
2. Potential candidates have been turned off by the mean-spirited attacks of the hate bloggers and their mouth-pieces.

What do you think?

You nailed it BB!

Word is that Tom Dolby took out papers for school committee at the last minute yesterday. His goal would be to move the district backwards and destroy the current cooperation between the school district and town council. Dolby is one of the background voices at COG. All of us who care about Barnstable's schools need to pay attention. This certainly explains the amount of time that Lopez has been spending lately bashing Peggy Dandridge.

BB, You are right about the unopposed candidates. Ann Canedy is unopposed becuase she works hard for her precinct. Jim Crocker was born and raised in Osterville and people like him. And Rick Barry is probably the most popular Councilor of all. He doesn't speak all the time. He listens. It is interesting to note that the Councilors will be getting a pay raise next year. I would have thought that more would run for office, but most seem to be satisfied.

Did you notice that the Hate Blogs could field very few candidates for office. When they couldn't get anyone to run, Eric Schwaab had to register to vote and run himself. Pretty lame!

Hey BBlogger, I talked to Lou Gonzaga about a month ago and he couldn't run away from Schwaab, Julius and Lopez fast and far enough. Guess he wants to win this time.

In general, a poor showing by the gang who insists everyone on the Council is evil. Lopez and Julius couldn't even field candidates. My Councilor, Rick Barry, is a good guy and a hard working Coucilor.

They had to run themselves or else no one would be opposed. Now that is disatisfaction for you!

BB, Gary Lopez is endorsing a candidate for the school committee who was principally responsible for the multi-million dollar deficit scandals in the 1990's. Boy, is this going to be fun!

Is Candidate Schwaab endorsing Dolby for School Committee?

Sarge, you assume Schwaab even knows who Tom Dolby is. Remember, Schwaab just got here.

BB, you should let candidates offer testimony as to why they should be elected. My wife and I don't know some of these candidates.

Thanks!
